Dear Jon i am an Norwegian citizen working in Thailand. Since we are in east of Thailand, with less qualified Doctors, I am emailing you. * My Thai girl friend has been diagnosed by a local skin doctor for herpes simplex type 1 (the lesion is around the mouth). Before she saw the lesion at least 1wk. before, she had low fever, cold, running nose, is it possible she got herpes simplex 1? The treatment she got here from a local doctor, just some cream, and antibiotics. Doctor here said she has to take some rest if she get high fever take some paracetamal and drink a lot of water. Herpes is hidden at spinal cord, and if she weak again, stress, insomnia again, it may attack again, Is this correct? I read that Herpes is recovered in 1-2 wk, but should I be serious about this? The doctor also told my girlfriend that in order to improve her immunity she must exercise, sleep at least 6-8 hrs., drink a lot of water Questions: 1)Should I stay away from my girlfriend, could I get infected by direct contact _IF NOT YET>>?if to stay away--how long? or any cautions I/we should take now? Or is it not that serious you think? Am i immune to this from any vaccines in Norway? 2)If anyone gets the virus, will it always be presented in the body? 3) once she is recovered can i have normal contact with her again?(example; if i kiss her-what happen??should i sleep another room?) 4)Is this VIRUS same, OR related as HERPES 2-genitial? if you get HERPES simplex 1, will/could that be infected as a HERPES 2 later somehow? 5) do you think she got infected just recently or from the childhood? 6)should i take a blood test to check myself,too?we have been together for 5 years 7) as she work in the food business-any pre-cautions?pls advise. can i eat her cooking at home, for example? 8)it can still spread to me (or other) also when there is no visible sores? 9) iam itching on my hand sometimes-the knuckles. are those symptoms of HERPES, maybe?? 10) do you need me to send you some pictures from my knuckles and my girlfriend?your email? 11)is this common in Norway, or is it more common in tropical climates?
