Det finnes mennesker som er så fulle av mindreverdighetskomplekser at de soler seg i en liten bagatell som at de kjenner noen som kjenner kokka til kongen. Jeg satt igjen med et slikt inntrykk etter at Bondevik hadde hilst på Bono i all kvalmende offentlighet. En, etter min mening, ubetydelig musiker møter en enda mindre politiker. De sleiker hverandre oppetter ryggen, og så serverer landets aviser dette til folket helt kritikkløst , og alle jubler.

Hva Bono og U2 angår mener jeg de er tidenes mest oppskrytte band. Ikke fordi de er elendige, det er de ikke på noen måte, men de har aldri gjort seg fortjent til den gudestatusen de har oppnådd. De er ikke engang i nærheten, og er ikke noe mer enn en helt greit band.

Nei! Betydningsfull i større sammenheng. Og det var nettopp det som var poenget. Uavhengig av hva de har betydd for meg personlig, så er det et betydningsfullt band. Det var akkurat det jeg ville fram til.

Politisk har U2 brukt sin posisjon helt siden begynnelsen for å skape oppmerksomhet rundt en rekke forskjellige saker. Dette så aktivt at Bono selv flere ganger er foreslått til nobels fredspris.

« When U2 hear that the Irish center for sexually abused women, One in Four, is going under, they send $45,000 to keep it going for another month, vowing to keep it afloat until the government gets its act together.
